C-Brace®
Severn Orthotics is certified to assess and trial the Ottobock C-Brace®, an advanced microprocessor-controlled knee-ankle-foot orthosis (KAFO) designed to support safer, more controlled walking. Unlike traditional locked-knee KAFOs, the C-Brace® continuously adapts to the user’s movement, providing controlled knee stability during stance while allowing controlled knee flexion during the swing phase.
This advanced technology can help support a more natural and efficient gait pattern, making everyday activities such as walking on uneven ground, negotiating slopes and sitting down and standing up more manageable.

Exopulse Suit
The Exopulse Mollii Suit is an innovative, non-invasive technology designed to support the management of spasticity and improve movement and function. It uses low-frequency electrical stimulation delivered through electrodes integrated into a full-body garment, targeting multiple muscle groups simultaneously.
The suit may be suitable for people with neurological conditions associated with spasticity, including cerebral palsy (CP), multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke and other neurological conditions. Providing targeted stimulation may help reduce muscle stiffness and support more comfortable, controlled movement.

Stance Control Orthoses
Stance-control knee-ankle-foot orthoses (KAFOs) are designed to provide stability and support during the stance phase of walking, while allowing the knee to flex during the swing phase. This can provide a more natural and efficient walking pattern compared with traditional locked-knee KAFOs.
Stance-control systems can help improve functional mobility, walking efficiency, and independence, while supporting the knee when it bears weight. Different systems are available, and the most appropriate option will depend on your individual movement, strength and stability.

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) uses gentle electrical impulses to stimulate specific nerves and muscle groups at the appropriate point during movement. It can help activate weakened or poorly controlled muscles, supporting more effective and functional movement.
FES is commonly used to support walking and manage foot drop, but it can also be used to assist movement and function in other areas of the body, including the upper limb. Depending on the individual, FES may help improve gait, functional mobility and movement patterns, while reducing the need for compensatory movements.

Sensory Dynamic Orthosis (SDO)
Dynamic compression garments are designed to provide gentle, targeted compression and support where it is needed most. Carefully positioned reinforcement panels can provide additional sensory input and support proprioception, helping to improve awareness of body position and movement.
They may also help support postural control, musculoskeletal alignment and movement stability, making them a useful option for people who experience difficulties with coordination, posture or controlled movement.

Contracture Management
Specialist orthotic solutions can play an important role in the management of contractures, joint stiffness, and soft-tissue shortening. At Severn Orthotics, we can provide tailored solutions designed to support joint positioning, maintain available range of movement and preserve functional ability.
We may use Turtlebrace®, an innovative, lightweight and remouldable orthotic system that can be individually shaped and adjusted as a patient’s needs change. Its ability to be repeatedly remoulded can make it particularly useful as part of serial immobilisation and rehabilitation programmes, including in cases of spasticity or progressive changes in range of movement.
